"Captains Log: Mission Entry 1, Day 1
I am confirmed in the eyes of the crew. Our launch was a spectacle, glad for it too. we are going to have to develop some clout and toolbox for the bureaucrats trying to crack this operation wide open.
We are the first of our kind. A Merchant vessel under operational lease from a Military organization... They'll never let another crew own their ship like this, but the opportunities are abounding, and it feels like we are barely keeping the course.
I found faith in an odd moment though. Something I noticed on my inspection tour stays with me.
A strut on the anterior MAMA reactor, something nobody but an engineer up to their ass in a Jefferies tube while upside down would ever see. I only saw it because that's the degree I inspect my engine rooms.
They painted it. I am still trying to find out who was the blessed soul with such diligence and care to their work but goddamn if I am not impressed. It was a minimal application, a single pass with the polymer spray, but to this perfectionist, they got every inch of the whole reactor.
So small a feat, yet it sticks with me, and I feel the care this crewman has for their adopted ship. For some, this is home for the next two years. I am not superstitious but I will hold every ship I inspect to this standard now. With so many omens forboding, it's nice to have a good one.
We have lots to learn, and must be confident in our abilities to handle what comes next.
We will do just fine I think."
