{Second Star- Turbolift 1}
Kaksos had learned to hold his tongue. somehow, it seemed to improve peoples attitudes. Among his peers he was a funny and light hearted fellow, but here, there was no doubt this was a one time engagement, his services were not going to be re-employed next time. When his alerts sounded to show their proximity to the border, he knew he was needed and made his way to the bridge. That was the plan; however, the turbolift was stuck doing rounds in the Engineering section.
Kas spoke over his communicator,
=0=Bridge here, Kaksos, we need you up here on the double, approaching Phaedras.
With practiced exasperation he replied,
=0= Yes, I was on the way half an hour ago, but it seems your department heads have all figured out how to issue priority overrides to the turbolift and I am a pawn in a pissing contest.
Judah's voice came next,
=0= Stand by. Got it taken care of, I put in a hierarchy for commands based on needs and... never mind. You're clear for the bridge now.
Kaksos got paid the same, so he simply replied, "Great."
{Bridge}
Vicente read the console, trying to sound engaged in his duties. "Fourteen minutes to the border... Phaedras?, Talarian port control has issued their greeting."
Kas looked to him in feigned surprise, "Did they? What did they say."
"Have permits ready or expect to be detained and possibly your vessel commandeered."
Quinton chuckled, "Glad we brought our man, he better be worth the cost."
Fala looked up from her padd, "The man is being paid by grant from the Talarian government, all the same, he is leased to us for this purpose. Where is he?"
Vicente was riding Conn, taking his turn as "Pilot." He replied, "Stuck in TL 1-G, we still have that bottleneck issue with Beta side Lifts down. Looks like Judah has him on his way, three minutes or so."
Simon was at the bridge's tactical/security station, monitoring the internal foot-traffic and noticed that the representative was on his way. "As long as he makes it in time."
Branagan sat at the science console, not finding a great deal of difference between this one and the last one she'd handled. The only major change was the tetryon scanner. It was mostly useful in subspace, but she thought Second Star probably spent the majority of its time there, and it would be handy to be able to track the disruption of tetryon particles caused by cloaked ships.
When she'd last sat at the science station, that hadn't been possible. Miracles of science still abounded. She engaged all the scanners available, including the tetryon, and watched for trickery on the part of the welcoming committee.
